Inspired by nature
These unique guitars and basses by designer Olaf Diegel were inspired by biomimicry. The Atom design was sparked when Olaf was in Durban, South Africa, and saw drops of oil coalescing on the surface of the water in the harbor in a random, but somewhat cellular, pattern. As it reminded him of the atomic structures one sees through a microscope, the Atom was born. The Spider design came from the interpretation of the ultimate heavy metal instrument through the lens of arachnids. And as a counter-point, the Hive guitar is a representation of the flower-power hippie sound, made manifest through an exploration of cellular structures in a peaceful honeycomb.
Olaf's use of 3D printing meant that such intricate designs could come to life and be made available to musicians everywhere.
